When the baths were almost 25 years old and much in need of refurbishment, the proprietors, the Merthyr Turkish Bath Company Limited, decided to go into voluntary liquidation.
David Robert Lewis, a solicitor with ten shares, was appointed liquidator and the baths were offered for sale by auction.
