This remarkable image by designer Mike Young draws on remembrance of his visits to the Imperial Turkish Baths made over 35 years ago, before their now widely regretted demolition in 1966.

This was one of the first instances of attempts made by members of the newly founded Victorian Society, still finding their feet, to ensure the preservation of an important Victorian building. Largely due to the society's later successes, demolition of such an important building would not be permitted today.
