The hydro on Richmond Hill, situated in a most beautiful position overlooking the Thames, was the last of Richard Metcalfe's hydros. It opened some time around 1894 and was still open in 1933, though Metcalfe himself died around the middle of the second decade of the new century.
The hydro had excellent Turkish baths, Metcalfe being an early advocate of their use. But there was also a wide range of other hydropathic treatments available.
The hydro accepted both residential and day patients. For the latter, a Turkish bath in 1906 cost 2/6d. during the day and 2/- in the evening. Steam baths were also available at a charge of 3/6d.
The building was demolished in 1935.
