Britain's best-loved restoration project has been steadily moving forward over the past few years and Gill Wright, with her hard-working team of part-time staff and more than 100 volunteers, can feel justly proud of their achievement so far. Anyone visiting the baths during this period will know that the baths have now become an extremely active cultural centre for the local community, with a range of activities which is nothing short of amazing.
Everyone is aware of how much more still needs to be done before the promised re-opening of the Turkish baths suite can be contemplated. But there is vision, there is determination, and there is faith that the project can be brought to fruition.
If you can't manage to visit the wonderful baths themselves at the moment, then the project's new website has just been launched and that is also worth a visit.
And if you are reasonably close, and are thinking of getting married, there's even a booking form for a variety of memorable spaces, including the Turkish Rest Room (or cooling-room), where the ceremony and celebration can be held.
