Victorian Turkish Baths Picture of the Month for  July 2011

Turkish baths sign: Norwich:
Prince of Wales Road, early 1900s

View down Prince of Wales Road, Norwich, c.1903
< Postcard: J J Rice, Prince of Wales Road, Norwich

This detail from a postcard of Prince of Wales Road, Norwich, showing a Turkish baths sign at the centre right of the image, is one of only two pieces of evidence we have telling us that these baths existed.

The other is a notice in The Times on 5 March 1902 (page 11) recording that the partnership of 'J Greenwood and H Raus, under the style of Greenwood and Rous, Norwich, Turkish Baths proprietors and restaurant keepers' has been dissolved. No other Turkish bath has so far come to light in Norwich. Does anyone know anything further about these? If so, please let us know.

The card was posted on an undecipherable date in 1906.

This item is from the collection of the Victorian Turkish Baths Project
