Dewsbury Turkish Baths:
clothes hanger token

Dewsbury token

In baths where there were no clothes lockers with keys, especially those run by local authorities, bathers stored their clothes in metal hanger baskets. These were then handed to an attendant who gave the bather a token with a lace which could be hung round the neck (before the days of health and safety regulations) or a rubber band which could be attached to a wrist or ankle. After bathing, the token was then exchanged for the bather's clothes. The token is 30mm in diameter.
