This is not a crowd queuing along William Street waiting for the Sarsfield Street Turkish baths to open, but the people of Limerick on 21 July 1922, chatting with the National Army troops after their capture of the city.
The word on the plaque above TURKISH BATHS NOW OPEN is unclear on this version of the image. Tracy Moroney has suggested that it is simply Luimneach (ie, Limerick) and this seems absolutely right.
