The card was published some time between 1882 and 1889 while Jonathan Hurn Faulkner had the lease of the White Rock Turkish Baths in Hastings.
In his book In the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes,1 Michael Harrison suggested that Holmes popped in to Faulkner's Villiers Street hotel from time to time for a Turkish bath. But this was rather more of a Watsonian than a Sherlockian deduction for, as his card shows, Faulkner's only London Turkish bath at this time was in Newgate Street.
