William Gunning King trained at the South Kensington School of Art and later at the Royal Academy in London. He was a regular contributor to Punch, and exhibited at the Sketching Society. From 1878 he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Grosvenor Gallery, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.
