In 1865, a full-page illustrated advertisement for Bartholomew's Turkish Baths Establishments in Bristol, Neath, and Newport, informed the reader that there was now,
a separate establishment for Ladies’ and that…the Bristol Great Western Hotel, under the same roof with the Turkish Baths, Warm and Cold Water Baths, tepid Swimming Baths, and Gymnasium, has been reopened on an improved temperance principle for the convenience of Commercial and other Gentlemen, Bathers and patients, who will now find the largest Commercial room in the City, an excellent reading room with all the London and provincial Newspapers, 40 well-appointed Bed rooms with well-aired Beds and clean Linen.
